We live in a time of visual overload, when terms like "hard image"
are being constantly challenged. When magazines, newspapers, TV and
other media are compelled to provoke "stronger" images.
"An image is worth a thousand words" we often
hear. What is the textual value of a 1,000 images, then ?
Conflict 1 to 1,000 is a
project launched in 2001, in the midst of the war like situation,
escalating alarmingly in Israel / Palestine. The project will be exhibited
in the "bakery gallery" in Amsterdam, 27th October to 27th
November.
(Annet Gelink gallery, Laurierstraat 187 - 189, tel: +31.20.3302066)
During the exhibition the visitors will be exposed to 1,000 small
images, all photographed in Israel / Palestine, during the months
July - October 2001. The images stand alone, without any text accompanying
and explaining them. The visitors are invited to buy the images, take
them off the wall and replace them with their own text. The visitors
will write their interpretation, reaction or question, provoked by
the images, on the wall.
The money (10 G for a photo) will be used for peace/art projects.
The project was made possible thanks to SNAIT foundation. (contact

This project is number 56 of "collectors'
items" series of works by artist Tal Adler. |
