Two days ago I went, along with 250,000 people more, to the big right-wing demonstration in Jerusalem with the promising title: "JERUSALEM, I PLEDGE".
I haven't pledged anything, but I took a lot of pictures.
I felt a complete stranger, almost all were religious, almost all from outside of Jerusalem. there I was, second generation in Jerusalem, pushing my way in a sea of settlers from the occupied territories, new comers from Ethiopia and Zionist tourists from U.S.A and France. all swearing passionately not to abandon Jerusalem.
A bit confusing. I mean, how can you abandon a place if you don't even live there?
Anyway, I should have felt flattered, even proud, all these people, coming from wherever, "fighting" for my city, "taking care" of it for me,  no?
well, no.
what they were actually doing was coming here, to "take care" of one thing: Not letting the conflict abandon Jerusalem, god forbid.
Sure, it's fine living in a big villa with an amazing view in a small romantic settlement in the West Bank. or very comfortably, away from this terrible war, in Brooklyn, USA. but when the danger of peace approaches, sure, I can rely on my brothers, to come to my city and protect it from inhabitants like me, people who really want to live here, quietly, alongside their real neighbors, no demonstrations, no war.

But then again, who am I to say anything? the 1 million dollars which were raised to finance this demonstration came from abroad anyway.
