When I was young, I mean very young, I was looking at the floor all the time. I was always finding things people lost or dropped, I guess I was kind of a shy rat, didn't look up much, kept my head down, developing thoughts and dreams. Of course all this is quite changed now, for years now, I am the human scanner, I can spot interesting figures (females most exclusively) from miles in a split of a second, a wink of my eye (either one). But today I had an exhausting practice in what I used to do naturally as a kid. It was a very tiring day, 10 hours teaching in the south after sleeping over in our teacher's apartment, after another teaching day in the south. On the way back to Telaviv tonight I decided (for the last time in my life) to pass through one of these huge supermarkets in the outskirts of the city. It's 19:00 o'clock, me and other 5,000 fat ugly Israelis who are pushing over-loaded shopping carts veryvery slowly, trying hard to stop in the middle of the narrow aisle… never mind, I escaped that after one terrible hour, with some 10 plastic bags of potential food, in my car. It's 20:30 o'clock, I'm very tired and I have to park in a non parking zone near my apartment, and to run quickly up and down with the bags, not to get a parking ticket. Then park very far away (the price to pay in my new posh neighborhood) and walk 10 minute to get back home. It's almost 21:00, I'm exhausted but I really want to get to the festive opening of the new net magazine of my friends and colleagues… so I get on my bicycle. I figure; "a nice way to wake up again", can't get in the car again anyway, and indeed the 30 minutes ride there was extra fun, I love this road, all along the beach, I let the sea breeze fresh me up... BUT as soon as get off my bike I realize I don't have the keys on me. It's gone, a whole bunch of 10 keys of 3 apartments, the car, the bike, the school, etc… oh shit. I just went up to the trendy club, say "hi…bye", and then 22:30 to 23:30 cycled all the way back from the very south part of Telaviv, to the very north part on the Yarkon river, cycling through the exact road I took on the way there, hoping not to be run over by the angry drivers (yes I KNOW I'm on the wrong side, thanx) keeping my eyes strained, shoved down only, at the road and sidewalks… all the way back. What a nightmare. I still have flashes of roadroadroad when I close my eyes.
Didn't find the keys anywhere on the ground, was ready to call "Moshe the burglar" or try to brake into my own apartment climbing up, but as I got to the door … the keys were stuck on the outside, still waiting innocently for me to pick them up…
thank god for being stupid. Thank god for lazy thieves.
(I know it's an uninteresting bad item, but I'm so tired, tomorrow early another teaching day… and I felt i have to release a new one, been too long...)
