Everything’s blocked, no progress, frustration. I’m alone and there’s no help, just obstacles, humps and bumps and when I pass them I just find more barriers. I loose faith in what I’m doing, doubting how long will I be able to continue working this way. We’re fighting huge powers and we’re so helpless. I’m running out of money rapidly and all the verbal and emotional support, all those positive feedbacks, compliments, and appreciations I receive from people don’t help anymore. The flat truth is that shallow content and mainstream meaningless entertainment rule the cultural spheres. If you wish to be critical in your art work, please be dull and don’t point your finger in any clear direction. Be ambiguous, after all it’s art, right? Don’t offer solutions as well, that might be dangerous. You want support? Join our silly dance of false intellect. Let’s party our indifferent stupidity together, just don’t show us how cruel we are, don’t remind us our moral obligations.
Decorators and designers use images taken from the last disaster or the five o’clock news, or just hint at some social issue they’ve heard people talk about, in their new blurred video work, and proudly attach the new trendy stamp; “Political” to their curriculum. The enthusiast crowd, as well as the funding and hosting facilities are easy to fool, as they, as well as the “artists”, probably never engage in anything more than just being culturally entertained by the various issues, much loved by the new “political artists”; immigration and illegal labor, homelessness, sweatshops or the Israeli occupation. It’s all fine as long as the message is not too direct, and no solutions offered. Public money can be spent without making anyone angry, no direct blame, no suggested responsibility, everyone can join the celebration of cruel entertainment; governmental awards, foreign ministries, global corporations and the silent public all wash away their responsibility with the new wonder detergent – the new political artist.
