A room-size camera was constructed for this project to produce very large direct-prints without negatives. A direct projection of the fossils on the printing paper enabled exceptional tonality and sharpness not possible with conventional photography using enlarged negatives. As there were no negatives enlarged, there is no grain in the photographs. The format of the camera is the size of the prints. As no negatives were produced, each print is unique. The prints were exposed, developed, processed and dried inside the room-camera providing the finished product, as an "instant" ultra-large-format camera. The fossils were lent by the Earth Science Institute's fossil collection at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The project took place during the year 2000. |
